If you read my July Wrap Up Post or Paula at the Book Jotter’s Weekly Wind Up #340 or Chris at Calmgrove’s post A Moomin Memoir, last week, you must have noticed that plans were afoot for a celebration–or should that be two? Paula shared the wonderful news of her upcoming wedding next year, to be set around a Moomin theme! So that all us bloggers can also join in the celebration, next year Chris at Calmgrove and I here will be hosting a one off event, a #MoominWeek! The celebration will run from 26 August to 1st September 2024, which straddles the month of Tove Jansson’s birth month (she turns eleventy; Chris pointed this out, I hadn’t realised) and the month of Paula’s wedding celebration.
All this week you are invited to share posts on anything Moomin: read a Moomin book (or two or three) and review, a picture book or comic, watch an adaptation, or write about your favourite characters, books or experiences reading/watching Moomin generally, anything’s welcome.
We realise there’s well over a year to the event so we will be posting reminders and re-sharing this post regularly so that everyone can plan their participation accordingly. Anyone’s welcome to join in, and we hope to ‘see’ you and have lots of fun with the Moomintrolls!

I wonder if Paula and her partner chose that week deliberately. Lovely way to celebrate!

Ah, no the actual wedding is a couple of weeks later–mid month–but this week seemed perfect to host since it touches both months.

I have to tell you, Sandy, you’ll probably know a Moomin from the tips of its ears to the end of its tail by this time next year! 😂

They’re white hippo like creatures who are stars of tales by Finnish writer Tove Jansson. The first appeared in the 1940s–there are both full length novels and comic strips. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moomins

Not having grown up with the Moomin books I’m looking forward to exploring this side of Jansson’s work and most of all being able to participate in the wedding celebration of Paula and her partner! Thank you to you and Chris for hosting.💚

🙂 I hope you enjoy your first visit to Moominland, whichever book you may pick. I’ve kind of always known them since my mother read the comic strips as a child and I’ve always heard about the characters and stories since I was one

At first I thought it’s August-September 2023. And I thought: how could you, Mallika, on so short notice?! But then realized, it’s for 2024! :))
I haven’t read any Moomins, so, yes, I’ll be in next year! 😉
